TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION

 

Position/Description: The College of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma is seeking applications for a tenure track assistant or associate professor to begin August 2010. Responsibilities include teaching designated College of Architecture classes, research and service to the college. Applicant should have demonstrated expertise in the following areas: statics and strengths of materials and concrete, wood and steel structures.  The applicant will also be responsible for teaching other relevant courses in the architecture and construction disciplines. The successful candidate should have a Masters degree and licensure in his or her discipline, if applicable, to be considered for tenure. A Doctorate is desirable but not required although the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop and pursue a funded research program and to contribute to instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Interdisciplinary undergraduate instruction includes Structures Classes in support of both the Architecture and Construction Science programs offered by the College of Architecture.

 

Work Environment: We are looking for someone to join our multidisciplinary college in a team effort. The college continually strives to develop and strengthen industry relationships in a metropolitan area that is experiencing steady growth. The College of Architecture incorporates five disciplines including architecture, construction science, interior design, landscape architecture, and regional and city planning. The University of Oklahoma enrolls approximately 24,000 students and is located in Norman, a city of approximately 90,000 residents. Norman is located 17 miles from the state capital, Oklahoma City and three hours from Dallas/Ft. Worth. The campus spans 3,000 acres of heavily landscaped walkways, gardens and courtyards with notable regional Gothic architecture.  Oklahoma is home to the largest number of Native American Indian tribes in the United States. Norman offers a unique family or singles living environment, great restaurants and cultural activities with ease of access for travel to urban areas. 

Requirements: 

  • A Masters degree in engineering, architecture, construction science or architectural engineering from a professionally  accredited program.
  • Licensure in discipline if applicable
  • Demonstrated expertise in one of the following: statics and strengths of materials and concrete, wood, and steel structures.
  • A minimum of three years of significant U.S. architectural, construction and/or engineering experience.
  • Ability to work in BIM  and/or digital structural design environments 

Preferences:

  • Demonstrated teaching ability in required area of expertise at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Demonstrated potential to develop a research agenda in support of University and college goals, along with the division of architecture and/or construction goals.
  • PhD or Doctorate
  • In addition to demonstrated ability to teach in an area of expertise, the ability to teach in two of the following areas:  materials and methods, soils and foundations, and design studios.
  • Prior teaching experience in an architecture or construction program.
  • Ability to interact with industry through training, research programs or similar partnerships.
  • Dedication to actively providing leadership to students through student club sponsorship, competition team coaching and organizing and implementation of similar student activities.
  • Proven commitment to support organizational missions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary academic environments
